Very heart-warming, Gillian. Eddie gained some wisdom on her final ride. Excellent tale.

Thank you so much! The story came from some lessons I am trying to learn about not holding regrets and looking at what is around me rather than what isn’t.

Loved this story! Your story is a poignant meditation on regret, privilege, and the quiet tragedy of a life spent looking past those who stood closest. Edwina's realization, that she was never truly alone, only blind to the love she had been given, is a lesson that reaches far beyond her own story.

Perhaps the greatest regret is not what we lose, but what we fail to see while we still have it. In the end, life does not measure us by our wealth, our status, or even the depth of our mourning, but by the love we have given and the gratitude we have shown. And maybe, just maybe, if we are willing to open our eyes before the last train arrives, we won’t have to whisper our regrets in the final hour- we will have already lived the truth we were meant to see.

Thank you so much for this comment Simon! That is exactly what I was trying to convey in this tale. As flash fiction, the word count is the challenge so I am delighted that the fullness of the idea shone through!

It’s amazing what you miss when you’re not curious and open!!
